Book a service

Have your heating system serviced annually by a gas safe registered engineer, this will ensure that it is in good working order and can increase boiler and system efficiency. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s working OK, for the safety of you and those around you it is vital that you have it serviced once a year. You can often combine it with your annual gas safety check to save money.
Ensure Pipe work and tanks are protected from cold weather by insulating them properly.
Know the location of the internal, external mains stop cock, Gas emergency control valve and the and electrical supply to the heating system.

Warning Signs

You should routinely check your boilers for any signs of ware and tare. Black soot, unusual noises, leaks and cracks are all signs that you have a faulty boiler. Your flame should be blue – if it looks yellow or is smoking you should call your engineer ASAP. Make sure that you also check your flues and vents for any blockages.

Keep your Boiler Ventilated

Make sure to not surround your boiler with clutter. To operate properly your boiler must be properly ventilated and as easy as possible to access.

Check the Pressure

Over time your boiler will lose pressure and can affect its performance. Make sure to regulate the pressure when needed – your operation manual should be able to instruct you on this.

Summer Heating

Make sure to turn your heating on for 10 – 15 minutes once a month during the summer months to keep your boiler in check.
It is also important that you have a carbon monoxide alarm installed in your home. If you are a tenant it is your landlords responsibility to ensure that you have one installed.
